Surviving Torture and Fighting Stigma Workshop

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On 14 June 2019, Refugee Law Project published a video titled “Aimé Moninga: My Journey To Overcoming Effect Of Sexualised Torture”. This video reflects the journey of Aimé Moninga (President of Men of Hope Refugee Association in Uganda) and touches on the day-to-day challenges that male survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) as well as the struggle to break the silences that surround the same.

The video was made following our contribution at the 49th Session of the United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture (UNFVT) on 3 April 2019 during which Aimé Moninga and David Onen Ongwech, Programme Manager Gender & Sexuality, represented Refugee Law Project and amplified the voices of male survivors of CRSV in both the Public Panel discussion and the Annual Expert Workshop. These events were both resourceful and focused on best practices in identification of victims, lessons learned about victim-centred approaches, and calls for specific assistance to victims in vulnerable situations including sexual and gender minorities, persons living with disabilities, and indigenous peoples.

The United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner have now released the report of the Public Event and the Annual Expert Workshop and we are pleased to share the report through the links below;
