Narratives of Change
Men Mobilizing Men in Practice is a programme of the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, Brighton UK. The programme is pioneering efforts to mobilise men to challenge and change the institutional polices and cultures that enable and enact sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). Working through local NGO partners in India, Kenya, and Uganda, Mobilising Men has recruited and trained teams of both male and female activists in a diverse range of institutional settings to develop campaigns addressing SGBV. The uniqueness of the program in Uganda, as it is enacted by the Refugee Law Project (RLP) of the School of Law of Makerere University , Kampala, Uganda, lies in its abilities to challenge normative discourses that SGBV is simply men as perpetrators and women as victims. This video is based on interviews with activists and RLP staff on their engagement with and understandings of challenging institutions, questioning normative discourses and policies, and discussing the consequences of their activism to challenge SGBV.
