Untreated Wounds
The pains of Uganda's "untreated wounds" have lasted for decades with the community deeply injured by the armed conflict. What the characters in the stories tell us, is that social and national healing can never truly occur in the absence of individual and community repair. There is need for the restoration of household livelihoods; plastic surgery for those who were deformed during the course of war; lifelong ARVs and income support for those raped and infected with HIV/AIDS. Such and many more forms of pain both physical and psychological, are bitterness that continue to linger in the minds of majority of Ugandans. The question remains however, will the Transitional Justice policy (being drafted) be able to deal comprehensively with Uganda's memories of Untreated Wound?
