8th IATJ Promo Video
The Refugee Law Project (RLP), School of Law, Makerere University, in collaboration with the African Transitional Justice Research Network (ATJRN), is now accepting applications to its 9th Institute for African Transitional Justice (IATJ) to be held from 16 - 20 September 2019, in Gulu, Northern Uganda.
The Institute will be held under the theme: 'Environmental Destruction: The Transitional Justice Issue of the Future? The week- long event builds on the successes and experiences on the past 8 IATJs and will reflect on the nexus between environmental degradation, climate change and injustice. The (environmental) harms done in conflict, the (environmental) harms done by weak post-conflict governance, the (environmental) harms arising from the structural violence of systemic oppression during and post-conflict are, or should be, logical extensions to the traditional concerns of Transitional Justice designed to dealing with the legacies of past violence. At the same time, the urgency of the matter demands that we interrogate whether TJ has something to offer now, rather than waiting for the future.
